Casino Municipal Vina del Mar

After Chris went to class today, I grabbed some coffee and then took a long walk. Left alone with my thoughts, I was sad to realize that we’re already four months into our leap year. So I stopped by the Casino Municipal, pictured above, to see if I could extend the length of our trip by hitting the blackjack tables.

Just kidding. I know better than that. Or maybe I don’t, but I know exactly what Chris’s face would look like if I did that.

It’s always busy at this casino, or at least it seems so based on the full parking lot. They strongly encourage formal attire which is why we haven’t gone in. That and the difficulty in resisting temptation. It was opened in 1930 and is a full-fledged casino with tables and slots, hotel rooms, a spa, restaurants and a club.

There’s a controversy regarding the casino’s ownership and where the money flows. I don’t know all the details, but basically the city heavily relies on the revenue and there are proposals to have some of that money go to a private operator.

Chris and I see this sign on our street every day. Here are a couple other photos from my walk today.

They’ll sell you a beer at a good price. But someday, and that day may never come, they’ll call upon you to do a service for them…
