Windy days are perfect for windsurfers! This guy got some serious air. In the town of La Ventana, about an hour or so east of La Paz, hoards of travelers — mostly from Canada — set up camp on the beach to take advantage of the winter winds.       There was also this ghost-town of a resort called Gran Sueño out in...

Today was our last day volunteering. We’re sad it’s over, but really enjoyed meeting the kids. There is an organization in La Paz called Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz, or FANLAP, which helps support students from the neediest families so they can succeed in school. Teachers were reporting that kids were having trouble concentrating — and even fainting — in class because their families didn’t have...

Had our date with Katniss Everdeen during the first showing of the day. Well, technically it was the second because we didn’t want to see the midnight show. 1:10 p.m. There were only about 40 people in the theater and there was no waiting. #score Movies here are much cheaper, but you have to make sure to find the movies in English with Spanish...

Today is Día de la Revolución in Mexico. It marks the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. We went and watched the parade which was a lot of fun. Although, the kids who marched in it didn’t look like they were having much fun! No smiles. Maybe because they just walked a mile with the sun in their faces.     On a completely unrelated note, two...

These bulls were hanging out on the highway between La Paz and Playa Balandra. We had a great day at the beach swimming and kayaking. The water is really shallow, and it was low tide, so you could walk all through the water in the cove. There are rentals for approximately 150 pesos per person, per hour. Beware, there are no bathrooms, so be prepared...

These two goldens live across the street from us. When they hear Holly’s ID tag jingling, they come running. There are lots of people with dogs in La Paz, but I don’t see people walking them often unless it’s in the evening on the Malecón. There are also street dogs, which are more tame than the pet dogs. (It’s true. When my dad first told...

Today, we huddled around a laptop to experience #Batkid. We’re so proud of you, San Francisco! We also went to Tecolote Beach. I took this photo of my dad, which I immediately knew would be a winner. I gave it just a bit of photo editing, while he watched carefully over my shoulder to make sure I did not over-edit. What a handsome dude!...

These teens play volleyball along the Malecón several times a week — and they’re  actually pretty good to watch. The owner of a restaurant we went to today gave us some great recommendations on places to visit while in Mexico City, so we’re excited about that. But what Chris was really excited about was the bolsita de churros we got on the street right...

No entiendo. Why do we suck at cooking beans? I thought we had our recipe all figured out. Then we cooked them this morning and, while edible, they’re not all that good. I even took pictures of all the steps, which I’m not going to include because that implies you should follow our steps. Here’s what we did after polling a few people in restaurants,...

I finished my photo editing class on Skillshare. It’s a good way to spend time while traveling abroad full time. I decided to edit a photo of Gaby and Holly. Check out the before and after! Note that these photos were all taken with my iPhone. There are a few places where I could have done a better job softening lines, but overall I’m pretty...

You may be wondering just what we’re doing with our time while we’re traveling full time. So here is a peek behind the curtain. / GENERAL LIFE STUFF / Some things don’t change. We do our laundry once a week, walk the dog three times a day, do the dishes, make our bed. Our rent includes cleaning service once a week, so that’s nice....

This is our new favorite place. It’s called La Miserable, and it’s on Belizaro Dominguez across from The Bagel Shop. They serve mezcal, with salty orange slices. The owner told us a lot about mezcal and the atmosphere was the perfect blend of trendy and relaxing. We also planned our English lesson for tomorrow morning....
